Govt to build trans-Sulawesi railway

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: The government plans to build a 1,900- kilometer railway track to link Sulawesi's four provinces.

Sulham Hasan, the head of the South Sulawesi transportation office, said on Wednesday that the project would commence this year, with first 150 kilometers being laid to connect Makassar and Parepare regency.

South Sulawesi provincial government is conducting a feasibility study for the Makassar-Parepare section, which will cost Rp 400 million, Hasan said.

He said that South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo and North Sulawesi provinces would coordinate the construction of the railway in their areas. -- Antara
