Govt sends health workers to Aceh

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Health sent on Tuesday another 57 health professionals, including more than 40 doctors, to Aceh in an effort to improve medical services in the area.

Among the doctors, there are nine surgeons, six obstetricians/gynecologists, five clinical pathologists, four pediatricians, two ophthalmologists, two dermatologists, two ear, throat and nose specialists, two psychiatrists, two cardiologists, one urologist, one orthopedic surgeon, one neurologist and a pulmonologist.

The health workers will work in different hospitals in the province for three months.

To date, the ministry has sent a total of 309 specialists and 46 nurses to Aceh, where government troops are fighting against the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM). -- JP
