Govt secures more beef

JAKARTA (JP): The government has secured 9,568 metric tons of beef for Jakarta and its surrounding areas, 2,432 tons more than the estimated demand during the upcoming holidays, Sofyan Sudarjat, director general of livestock said on Friday.

He said the supply, 80 percent of which was derived from local production, would help stabilize beef prices at between Rp 20,000 to Rp 25,000 per kilogram.

He predicted that the demand for beef in Jakarta within the next five weeks would be 5,935 tons, and in Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi 3,633 tons.

As for poultry, he added, the demand was estimated at 26 million chickens. (06)
