Govt revokes licenses of five labor exporters
JAKARTA: Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Jacob Nuwa Wea said on Monday that he had revoked the licenses of five labor exporters for alleged forgery.
"I have signed the decrees declaring the revocation of their licenses. They have committed forgery," Jacob said as quoted by
He declined to mention their names, but called the move necessary for law enforcement in the country.
The minister, however, admitted that the regulations on the placement of Indonesian workers abroad were incomplete.
"We need such a law that will be obeyed by all parties, not only the manpower department," he said.
He said currently only a ministerial decree had the authority to revoke the exporters' licenses, while citing that once the law was enacted, there would be civil and physical sanctions against any violations.
Jacob also said that his ministry would soon set a quota for each labor exporter.
"I think such a quota is needed to evaluate the performance of the labor exporters," he said.
He explained that a labor exporter capable of sending 1,000 workers abroad last year would have be able to send the same number of workers this year.
The minister said that with a quota, a labor exporter would only be allowed to send the workers to two countries within the same region. -- Antara
