Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government said it is optimistic the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia next year will reach 10 million with foreign exchange earnings estimated at US$10 billion.

"We hope the condition will be getting more stable so that the tourism sector will contribute more to the country's foreign exchange earnings," Secretary General of the Culture and Tourism Ministry Wardiyatmo said here at the weekend.

To achieve the target of 10 million tourist arrivals the government must work hard because of tight competition among ASEAN member states amidst the current global financial crisis, he said.

The ministry has earlier set the target of tourist arrivals for 2009 at 7.1 million, an increase of the targeted 6.4 million tourist arrivals for this year. (*)
