Govt offers help for IT kiosks

JAKARTA (JP): The office of the State Minister for Research and Technology has prepared a catalog of practical technology in the form of CD-roms to be given to those interested in opening Information and Technology (IT) kiosks.

The minister's deputy for the procurement of information networks Utari Budiharjo said on Friday that the CD-roms also contained information on the state ministry, the National Institute of Sciences (LIPI), the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the State Ministry for the Environment, the National Library, and environmental bodies like the World Wildlife Fund, Cifor, Wetland, and Birdlife.

She said the kiosks are aimed at bridging the information gap between regions without Internet access, so that people could access information without having to come to Jakarta.

Those interested in opening a kiosk are provided with funds especially for the development of information on localized technology, Utari said. (10)
