Govt must ensure fair election
Govt must ensure fair election
From Merdeka
It is obvious that the general election held once every five years is aimed at giving an opportunity to every citizen to exercise their right and responsibility to implement democracy based on the state philosophy Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
The general election is also aimed at maintaining the unity and integrity of the nation and continuing development in order to raise people's living standards. Therefore, it is wrong for any individual or group to consider the election process an arena to foster egoism, monopolies and flatter-the-boss attitudes.
To help the election produce desired results the government, in this case the district chiefs, should indiscriminately protect, guide and give advice to the three parties contending the election i.e. Golkar, the United Development Party (PPP) and the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI). For the sake of fair play, the banners of the three groups should be raised in the offices of the district chiefs. This would avoid destructive competitiveness among the political parties which should struggle to enhance the quality of the election.
