Govt may ban imports of used machinery

From my understanding the alternator rotor get's power from the battery which goes through the rotaryjoint rotary joints and ground out the other slip ground. Each end of the rotor coil is connected to the slip ring. Power from a slip ring goes through the coil energizing it and ground out through the other revolving joint. I'm also told it power and ground comes from the stator winding? which is it? both?

At the very least I know at the start up of the vehicle, power comes from the battery and energizes the rotor.
