Govt indifferent to people's pleas

Govt indifferent to people's pleas

From Media Indonesia

Despite mounting protests and pleas from the public over the
fuel price hike, the government has neither budged nor winced,
but seems to have turned a blind eye to them. Apparently, the
leaders are more preoccupied with political maneuvering.

In the meantime, the people seem unable to escape their
perpetual predicament. Every time there is a budget deficit
problem, time and time again, it is the general public that has
to shoulder the burden. But when there is a surplus, the
government never shares any of it with the people.

With the recent fuel hike, we really hope that the government
will be more mature and pay more attention to the people, as our
nation couldn't exist without them, so please don't always place
the burden on them.

To stay in office, President Abdurrahman Wahid always refers
to the 1945 Constitution, but why, when it comes to defending the
interests of the public, does he never refer to the
Constitution?.

If the government and the House of Representatives can no
longer take sides with the people and think only about themselves
and their own interests, these two institutions should be
dissolved so that they are not a burden on the people.

We must all realize that the ongoing bickering and feuding
within the political elite has a severe impact on the economy,
security and the law, and it is again the people that have to
suffer from the pain caused by the crisis.

We are in full support of the idea to have the special session
brought forward by the People's Consultative Assembly, so that we
can find a solution and escape the crises currently besieging the
nation. The present government has proved to be inefficient, as
it continues to make the people suffer.

If such a condition persists, when will we be able to enjoy
justice and prosperity?.
