Govt forms team to tackle agrarian conflicts nationwide
“Our immediate target is to categorize all agrarian issues as quickly as possible,” Hadi said after a meeting with government officials, House of Representatives lawmakers, and the Consortium for Agrarian Reform (KPA) at the Parliament Complex on Tuesday (August 11).
The meeting was also attended by Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid, Villages and Disadvantaged Regions Development Minister Yandri Susanto, and Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni.
Hadi added that the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas will also be included in the cross-sectoral team.
He explained that the team will classify agrarian conflicts nationwide based on their level of complexity, with less complex disputes prioritized for faster resolution.
He cited the example of approximately 73,000 hectares of land currently used as rice fields but officially classified as forest areas. He said such administrative discrepancies should be relatively easy to resolve.
“In parallel, we are urging these conflicts to be resolved using existing mechanisms within each respective ministry,” Hadi said.
Meanwhile, Minister Wahid noted that agrarian conflicts generally fall into three main categories, disputes over forest areas, conflicts involving state-owned enterprises (SOEs) or state assets, and disputes involving private entities.
He said disputes involving private entities are relatively easy to resolve. In contrast, conflicts involving state assets are significantly more complicated because they carry the risk of corruption allegations.
“The real challenge lies in claims involving SOE assets or other state-owned assets, such as those belonging to the National Police. These cases involve legal complications, state finance laws, and other related regulations,” Wahid explained.
