Governors Sherly and Ahmad Luthfi Spark Social Media Interest During Official Meeting

Social media posts by Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi and North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda have suddenly become a public focal point. Both appeared to synchronise their posts by sharing moments of sitting side-by-side during an official event, triggering various reactions from netizens, ranging from personal closeness speculation to well-wishes for a potential match.

Based on monitoring of the official Instagram accounts @ahmadluthfi_official and @s_tjo on Monday, 15 September 2026, Sherly Tjoanda first uploaded 11 photos of her activities. From that series, three frames showed her sitting alongside Ahmad Luthfi. Shortly after, Ahmad Luthfi’s account also uploaded similar photos, even placing the moment of togetherness as the primary photo (first slide).

Other regional heads, such as East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud, were also present during the event. However, the fact that both are currently single—Ahmad Luthfi is a widower and Sherly is a divorcee—led netizens to flood the comment section with matchmaking remarks.

Behind the social media commotion, the presence of both governors in Jakarta was to attend a Hearing (RDP) with the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the conditions and strategic agrarian issues in their respective regions.

In his presentation, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi emphasised the importance of protecting Protected Paddy Field Land (LSD) to maintain national food productivity. Luthfi asserted that land conversion must be minimised as much as possible.

“Once paddy fields are lost, they cannot return. We need to maintain the area of agricultural land to ensure it does not undergo land conversion,” Luthfi stated firmly during the meeting.

Central Java remains one of the nation’s primary food granaries with a significant contribution. Although the achievement of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) in Central Java has exceeded the minimum target of 87% set by the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Luthfi acknowledged that obstacles still exist in several urban areas due to limited available land.
