Governor wins family planing award

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Governor Harun Al Rasyid of West
Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been chosen as a recipient of Manggala
Karya Kencana award for his success in promoting family planning
in the province.

"The award will be conferred by Coordinating Minister for
Social Welfare Yusuf Kalla on Jan. 29 in Jakarta," NTB public
relations head Ma'sum was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday.

The Manggala Karya Kencana is the highest award in the family
planning program.

Harun was chosen for his success in reducing population growth
in the province from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent annually.

Governor Harun has also started targeting men in the family
planning drive.

At present, only 1 percent of family planning participants in
NTB are men. --Antara
