Governor: Visits to West Sumatra Rise 12 Percent During Eid Holiday
Tourism is one of the mainstays for West Sumatra. Especially during this long Eid al-Fitr holiday, we must ensure that visitors feel comfortable.
Padang (ANTARA) - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi stated that the number of visits to the province through Minangkabau International Airport increased by up to 12 percent during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday.
“We checked the flights at Minangkabau International Airport on Friday (20/3) and there was a 12 percent increase in visits,” said West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi in Padang on Saturday.
He said that the provincial government, along with regencies and cities, continues to strive to create a comfortable Eid atmosphere for returnees, including by preparing personnel and posts at certain points.
Moreover, the former Mayor of Padang has also asked regents and mayors to maintain services, cleanliness, and comfort at tourist sites. This is because it can serve as a reflection of the Minangkabau Region during the Eid holiday.
Furthermore, he emphasised and reminded service providers at tourist destinations, including restaurants, not to impose illegal levies or raise prices without clear information.
He hopes that West Sumatra can remain a preferred province to visit during the Eid holiday, thereby having a positive impact on the economic growth of the community.
Separately, Deputy Mayor of Padang Maigus Nasir emphasised that every restaurant and cafe in tourist area must display menus and food prices.
The Padang City Government issued Circular Letter Number 500.13.2/52/Dispar-pdg/2026 on Price Certainty for consumer protection. The circular was signed by the Mayor of Padang.
In the circular, the Padang City Government also urged visitors in tourist areas to first confirm the prices of food or drinks before shopping.
Maigus said that the policy is aimed at avoiding the practice of “mamakuak” which often occurs at several tourist sites, especially during the Eid al-Fitr holiday momentum.
