Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has called on visitors to Flag Heritage Park (Taman Bendera Pusaka) to use public transport, citing limited parking availability at the venue.

“Regarding parking, if I were to say that parking is not a problem, I would be lying. However, I am confident that because this has become a major public transport corridor in Jakarta, everyone can easily access it using public transport,” Pramono said when met at Flag Heritage Park on Saturday, 14 March.

Pramono acknowledged that both car and motorcycle parking facilities are available at Flag Heritage Park, but their capacity is insufficient.

The governor therefore hopes that future park visitors will choose to use public transport options such as Transjakarta rather than private vehicles.

“If they do bring vehicles, there is parking available, but I am confident it will not be sufficient,” Pramono stated.

Flag Heritage Park was officially inaugurated by Pramono on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was attended by Indonesia’s fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

The park previously comprised three separate parks — Leuser Park, Ayodya Park, and Langsat Park — which have now been consolidated into a single venue.

The unified park features various sports facilities. According to Andri Yansyah, head of Jakarta’s Youth and Sports Department (Dispora), the sports facilities include basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, padel courts, and a jogging track.

Beyond recreational purposes, the development of the park in South Jakarta also serves flood mitigation objectives for the capital. The Jakarta provincial government has integrated drainage systems and green infrastructure into the park’s design to maximise water absorption and air circulation.
