Governor to receive PKBI award

SEMARANG: The Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) is planning to present a token of appreciation to Central Java Governor Mardiyanto in recognition of his meritorious services in supporting the association's program in the province.

The PKBI leadership would confer the award on Mardiyanto on Sept. 4, coinciding with the PKBI's 12th national congress in Jakarta, the association's secretary Dr. Ulla Nuchrawaty MM said on Saturday.

She said Mardiyanto had positively contributed to PKBI's activities in the province by adopting policies which accorded with the association's vision and mission.

In addition, the governor set aside funds from the provincial budget for the construction of a family planning information center in the province, she said.

PKBI was formed in 1957, or 13 years earlier than the setting up of the National Family Planning Coordination Board (BKKBN) in 1970.

She said since five years ago PKBI had presented tokens of appreciation to a number of public figures who had helped ensure the success of the association's programs.

Last year, the association presented an award to Mrs. Shinta Nuria, the wife of former president Abdurrahman Wahid. -- Antara
