Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Governor of Papua, Mathius Derek Fakhiri, has reaffirmed his commitment to expediting the opening of access roads to remote areas in Papua, particularly in Mamberamo Raya Regency. This is being done to reduce the isolation of communities and boost equitable development and basic services in inland areas.

“The opening of access roads is an important step in reducing the isolation of communities who have long found it difficult to reach basic service centres,” he said in Jayapura on Sunday.

To this end, Fakhiri stated that the Papua Provincial Government will prioritise the construction of roads from Dabra to Sikari and other inland areas in Mamberamo Raya Regency.

He explained that opening access roads is an important step in reducing the isolation of communities who have long found it difficult to reach basic service centres.

“By making direct visits to inland areas, we as the government can see and feel the real conditions of the community. Therefore, activities like this will be carried out more often,” he added.

He further stated that in addition to road construction, the Papua Provincial Government will also encourage the development of air and sea transport facilities to accelerate mobility and logistics distribution.

He explained that the Papua Provincial Government is also preparing for the development of regional-based economic zones, including the agricultural and plantation sectors in Mamberamo Raya together with a number of other regencies.

“So that future development in Papua will no longer be centred in urban areas, but will start from villages and inland areas so that the welfare of the community can be felt more evenly,” he said.
