Governor: Tangerang Raya flood management requires support from Jakarta
The floods in Tangerang Raya require collaboration and support from partner regions such as DKI Jakarta, said Banten Governor Andra Soni. He, accompanied by Tangerang Regent Maesyal Rasyid and Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin, met DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to strengthen synergy and collaboration in flood management and waste handling. In the meeting, regional leaders agreed to work together to resolve cross-border issues. One flood-management strategy agreed upon is the construction of several joint reservoirs to hold runoff. Through those reservoirs, the raw water could be used for the benefit of the community, he added. Regarding waste management, Tangerang Raya will commit to managing waste independently under the PSEL programme. Organic waste will be processed into economically valuable products involving local communities, he said. Regent Maesyal Rasyid said they would optimise land assets owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government located in Legok sub-district for residential areas, agriculture, and flood-control reservoirs. Of the total land, only 1.4 hectares are currently used for a Correctional Institution, and the rest will be used for the intended purposes: 38 hectares for agriculture and reservoirs and 47 hectares for housing.
