Governor takes on corruption

SEMARANG, Central Java (JP): In a continued crackdown on
irregularities in his office, Central Java Governor Suwardi said
he would fire 125 recent recruits to his administration if
allegations that they bribed their way through proved to be true.

The governor's measures are designed to create a clean
administration. Two weeks ago, Suwardi made newspaper headlines
when he expelled two senior officials for alleged embezzlement.

Suwardi told The Jakarta Post that his administration would
not forgive any would-be government employees who paid their way
into the job. "If they break the rules at the start of their
career, what will happen later should they reach senior
government posts?" (har/16)
