The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemenkomdigi) has issued Ministerial Regulation Number 9 of 2026, which will restrict children up to 16 years of age from using social media.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has expressed his full support for the policy implemented by Kemenkomdigi. He believes the regulation will bring positive impacts for children, including benefits to their education.

“I will provide full support and endorsement. Because in my view, this ministerial regulation is good,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Monday (9 March 2026).

However, he acknowledged that implementation of the regulation will not proceed smoothly in practice. Children today grow up alongside social media, so adjustment will be necessary during implementation.

Pramono believes the regulation will deliver significant benefits for children. Currently, many young people have become addicted to devices.

“With this restriction, I am confident it will provide benefits, especially for the children themselves. Because right now, many children have become truly addicted to gadgets,” said the former PDIP party secretary-general.

The ministerial regulation is derived from Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Management in Child Protection (PP Tunas). This regulation serves as the technical foundation for implementing government policy in strengthening child protection in the digital space.
