Governor says national roads in Banten still require around 8,000 street lighting points, including in South Tangerang
TANGERANG SELATAN, Balai Latihan Kerja Industri (BLKI) Serpong Utara — The Governor of Banten, Andra Soni, said that the national roads in Banten Province still require around 8,000 points of public street lighting (PJU). The figure was identified after a coordination meeting regarding the handling of PJU on the national roads in the Banten region. ‘There are roughly 8,000 lighting points in total on the national roads,’ Andra Soni said at the Balai Latihan Kerja Industri (BLKI), Serpong Utara, on Tuesday (19 May 2026).
From eight districts, the longest stretch of national road is in Lebak and Pandeglang. ‘Meanwhile, the national roads in South Tangerang are around 10 kilometres long,’ said Andra Soni. ‘Nevertheless, the national-road sections in South Tangerang are considered strategic because they border directly with Jakarta.’
According to him, to date there are still many parties shifting responsibility for repairs of PJU in Banten. Therefore, the Banten Provincial Government convened a coordination meeting to harmonise data and to allocate responsibility for the management of PJU on national roads. With this coordination meeting, Andra hopes there will be no more finger-pointing regarding PJU authority.
Separately, the Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang, Pilar Saga Ichsan, said the length of national roads in her area reaches about 12 kilometres, spread across the Ciputat and Pamulang areas. According to Pilar, many street lights along these national road segments are out of order and require repair. ‘We always submit PJU points on provincial roads. It now needs to be extended to the national roads. This needs to be accelerated so that our communication, the city government and the central PU can run well,’ Pilar said. ‘Hopefully in this period we can maximise PJU installation.’
