Governor requests direct involvement of regions in disaster fund distribution
Padang City (ANTARA) - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi has requested that the distribution of funds for handling hydrometeorological disasters that struck the province directly involve the role of local governments. “We hope that the central budget is indeed allocated to ministries, institutions, provinces, regencies, and cities,” said Mahyeldi in Padang City on Saturday. This was conveyed by the West Sumatra Governor in response to the progress of accelerating the handling of the impacts of flash floods and landslides that occurred in several regencies and cities in West Sumatra Province in November 2025. The former Mayor of Padang stated that direct involvement of local governments would speed up the disaster handling process. In fact, Mahyeldi assessed that communities in the affected areas should also be involved so that all sectors can move, especially the economy. He said that in early April 2026, the central government will allocate assistance for handling the disaster impacts in the Minang Land area amounting to Rp21.4 trillion. This refers to the previously submitted post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction plan document (R3P). “Insya Allah, there is Rp21.4 trillion that we requested in line with the spirit of the President that this disaster handling is national handling,” said Mahyeldi. With the assistance allocation submitted through the R3P document, it is hoped that the disaster handling in Minang Land can be completed as soon as possible. Moreover, the central government is also returning transfer funds to the regions (TKD), which can serve as a stimulus for handling. The return of TKD to the disaster-affected regions is a directive from the Minister of Home Affairs to help accelerate the handling of flash floods and landslides in late November 2025.
