Governor Pramono Responds to Bahlil's Proposal for Hydrogen-Powered Transjakarta Buses

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that he has held discussions with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia regarding the proposed use of hydrogen fuel for Transjakarta buses. The plan, initially raised by Minister Bahlil, aims to utilise hydrogen as an alternative fuel for public transportation in the capital.

Pramono stated that communication has also been established with the President Director of PLN to discuss the utilisation of hydrogen fuel. “I have communicated with the Minister of ESDM, Mr Bahlil, and Mr Bahlil has also assigned the President Director of PLN to discuss the use of hydrogen for transportation in Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek,” Pramono said at the Bundaran HI area on Wednesday (29/7/2026).

However, the Governor emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government will first prepare the necessary infrastructure before implementing the plan. He noted that several car manufacturers have expressed interest in the initiative, with some even offering to donate one or two hydrogen-powered vehicles to serve as a pilot project in Jakarta. “We will finalise the preparations first. Once the infrastructure is ready and the time is right, we will inform the public,” he added.
