Governor Pramono Receives Reports of Newcomers Unfamiliar with Jakarta
Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung has revealed the phenomenon of new migrants arriving in the capital. He stated that many newcomers still do not have adequate understanding of the conditions and challenges of living in Jakarta.
“So we are now starting to receive reports of some migrants who do not yet know about Jakarta when they arrive in Jakarta. Of course, those like that will be recorded,” said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday (30/3).
He mentioned that the majority of migrants come with high hopes of finding employment and improving their standard of living. Jakarta is still viewed as an economic magnet promising job opportunities.
“And on average, they place hopes of finding opportunities to work in Jakarta,” he continued.
Nevertheless, his side has not implemented any justice operations against the migrants to date. Pramono emphasised that the approach taken prioritises recording and individual readiness for those coming to the capital.
“I emphasise that the DKI Jakarta Government together with the DKI Jakarta DPRD will not conduct justice operations, but we ask anyone who comes to Jakarta to work in Jakarta, of course, with the capacity and capability to work in Jakarta,” he asserted firmly.
The DKI Provincial Government is also encouraging urban migration flows to be balanced with individual readiness, so that the opportunities available in the capital can be optimally utilised without causing new issues.
