Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has officially launched the construction of a pedestrian deck, or ‘donut’ bridge, in the Dukuh Atas area of Central Jakarta. The construction of the ‘donut’ bridge is targeted for completion in 2028. “When will it be finished? At the latest, June next year, 22 June next year, for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary it should be finished. Oh, it’s been negotiated to 2028. But the point is, hopefully it will be very visible by then,” Pramono told reporters during the launch in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (21/6/2026). Pramono explained that the ‘donut’ bridge will integrate six modes of transportation, including the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, airport train, and KCI commuter line, making it easier for residents to transit. “Earlier, the MRT President Director stated that four modes would be connected, but in reality, it is not just four; six modes will be connected,” he clarified. Furthermore, Pramono wants immigration services to be available on the pedestrian deck to facilitate residents travelling abroad who transit via the airport train. He believes this will make the ‘donut’ bridge area more vibrant. “At the same time, I will request the DKI Jakarta regional apparatus organisation to make this place a spot for immigration and check-in. Thus, I am sure the airport train will come alive, be easier, fully integrated, and have city check-in,” he added. Pramono also confirmed that the General Sudirman Statue in the area will not be moved or disturbed. In fact, the statue’s location will be right in the centre of the development. “The most important thing, after we pondered for days, is that the General Sudirman statue will remain in this place; we will not shift it, so it does not become a polemic. This place will become better and more beautiful,” he stated. Pramono said the ‘donut’ bridge will reduce traffic congestion on Jalan Sudirman. He noted that residents will find it easier to transit without disrupting traffic. “It can be guaranteed to reduce congestion. Why? As we all know, almost every afternoon or when it is drizzling or raining, every morning, many people get off at the roadside. This disrupts traffic here. If this exists, people will no longer go down to the street level. People will definitely use the elevated walkway because those heading to the MRT, airport train, or LRT will find it easier as everything is up there,” he explained. The construction of the ‘donut’ bridge involves the Japanese government through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and Urban Renaissance. The construction funds are sourced from MRT Jakarta. “It was answered earlier. The funding source is from MRT Jakarta. As for whose name the naming rights will be under, please pray, especially for the buildings owned by the big companies here. The most important thing is prayers. And the reason for the Japanese government’s involvement is indeed that one of the inspirations is what was created in Japan, and the conditions are the same as this place,” he concluded.
