Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed appreciation for Astra’s new programme encouraging public transport use, hoping the initiative will serve as a model for other companies. “I applaud Astra, a company with a long history and significant contribution to Indonesia, for taking part in the campaign to use public transport in Jakarta today. This step is expected to have a positive impact and become an example for other companies to jointly support the culture of using public transport in Jakarta,” Pramono said in a written statement on Friday.

Astra President Director Rudy explained the programme is intended for Astra employees to foster a public transport culture. The initiative invites employees to utilise various public transport modes for commuting, supported by a cashback scheme through the AstraPay application, which is integrated with public transport service applications such as Transjakarta and MRT Jakarta.

“Through the ‘Insan Astra Ayo Naik Transum Jakarta’ programme, Astra participates in supporting the culture of public transport use while strengthening synergy with various stakeholders to support Jakarta’s city development in delivering relevant mobility solutions for the public. We hope this programme collaboration can provide broader benefits in line with Astra’s aspiration to Prosper with the Nation,” he stated.

Previously, Astra had accompanied Jakarta public transport users by displaying creative works filling the open areas at the Bundaran HI Astra Transjakarta Shelter, the Menara Astra Transjakarta Shelter, and the Setiabudi Astra MRT Station. These creative works represent a collaboration between Astra and various Indonesian artists.

The launch of these programmes aligns with Astra’s spirit of being a beneficial asset for the nation and state, as reflected in its Catur Dharma philosophy, the foundation guiding Astra and its people in running its business and contributing to Indonesia. The presence of Astra and its ecosystem has created economic and social sector impacts reaching the Indonesian public through more than one million jobs, empowering over 50,000 local partners, 322 subsidiary operations, and supported by more than 190,000 Astra people.

On the sustainability front, in 2022 Astra launched the Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, comprising ten sustainability aspirations including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy use in operations, reducing water withdrawal intensity, increasing solid waste recycling, and community empowerment programmes through the Desa Sejahtera Astra.

The Desa Sejahtera Astra programme focuses on four areas: Health, Education, Environment, and Entrepreneurship. Through this programme, Astra strengthens local economies, expands access to education and health services, and promotes environmental preservation initiatives to enhance village self-sufficiency.

To date, Astra has fostered more than 1,500 prosperous villages across 35 provinces in Indonesia, reaching over three million beneficiaries, and successfully bringing various flagship products from assisted villages to the international market with an export valuation reaching Rp411 billion.

Specifically in the Jakarta area, Astra’s village development includes the Thousand Islands, supporting the Climate Village Programme across 21 villages in cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment, planting over one million trees, managing waste banks, fostering hundreds of schools and dozens of micro, small, and medium enterprises, as well as contributing to the construction of public spaces and urban area revitalisation.

These various initiatives are part of Astra’s synergy with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in supporting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for the community, in line with Astra’s aspiration to Prosper with the Nation and support Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals.
