Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta will become the first city to host the ‘Harmony in Diversity Award 2026’, a diversity awards event taking place on 14 to 15 July 2026. The prestigious Southeast Asia-level awards serve as a platform to strengthen regional communities based on solidarity, trust, and mutual care. ‘We view this event as a collective commitment to strengthening peace, friendship, and unity among the people of Southeast Asia amidst increasingly complex global conditions,’ said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during a ‘Welcoming Dinner’ at Balai Agung, Jakarta City Hall. Governor Pramono stated that Jakarta consistently upholds the values of tolerance, reflecting the city’s status as a home for diversity. This commitment is evident in the provincial government’s policies facilitating various celebratory spaces for all community groups. ‘From the Christmas Carol Kolosal, Chinese New Year celebrations, the Ogoh-ogoh parade, Jakarta Bedug Kolosal, to Waisak, all are given space in this city. Diversity is Jakarta’s main source of strength,’ Governor Pramono said. The award that year was presented to Cardinal Orlando Beltran Quevedo for his role in mediating conflict in Mindanao, including through the ‘Bishops-Ulama Conference’. Cardinal Quevedo’s work demonstrates that interfaith and community dialogue can pave the way towards sustainable peace. The dinner event also brought together influential figures from across Southeast Asia. Attendees included former Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, Founder and Chair of 5P Global Movement Arsjad Rasjid, and two former Indonesian Foreign Ministers, Retno Marsudi and Marty Natalegawa. The entire series of activities was initiated by the Temasek Foundation (Singapore) in collaboration with 5P Global Movement (Indonesia) and was launched on 1 August 2025 in Singapore.
