Governor Pramono Claims No Jakarta Areas Facing Drought Yet

The Jakarta Provincial Government is beginning to anticipate the impacts of the dry season occurring today, as drought has already started affecting several regions in Indonesia. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that so far, no areas in the capital have experienced drought. According to him, water availability in Jakarta is still relatively sufficient. “As of today, Jakarta has not experienced any worrying drought,” he said in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/7/2026). Nevertheless, the Jakarta Provincial Government will undertake anticipatory measures to face the dry season, considering it is predicted to be longer this year. “We are still taking anticipatory steps in case the dry season lasts longer and impacts water supply sources,” Pramono stated. He added that his administration will also hold a special meeting to discuss preparedness for the dry season, given the potential for various disasters. “Specifically, next week I will lead a meeting to discuss drought preparedness and also inform the public about the steps the Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared,” he said. Pramono added that the government will also use the dry season to accelerate the normalisation projects of several rivers in Jakarta, including the Ciliwung, Cakung Lama, and Krukut rivers. “For Jakarta, river normalisation will be accelerated when the water levels are low. At several points where the land has been cleared by the Water Resources Agency together with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, normalisation will be carried out immediately,” he said.
