Governor Pramono Anung Orders Security Tightening in Matraman After Deadly Clash

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed his ranks to tighten coordination with law enforcement and community leaders to ensure the situation in the Matraman area, East Jakarta, remains conducive following a recent brawl. “I have instructed the DKI Jakarta Government ranks to coordinate with law enforcement, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders to maintain a conducive and peaceful situation,” Pramono said at City Hall on Monday (27/7/2026). Pramono expressed deep concern over the Matraman clash that broke out in the area. He stressed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government places great hope in the police to thoroughly investigate this case in accordance with applicable legal provisions. In addition to instructions to the bureaucracy, the Governor also appealed to the wider community to remain calm and not be provoked by actions that could widen the conflict. He emphasised the importance of filtering information to avoid the spread of disinformation or hoaxes. “I also urge the public not to spread information or disinformation that is not based on facts, and not to damage public facilities. Once again I urge, we need to protect Jakarta together, so Jaga Jakarta is important in conditions like this,” he stressed. Two motorcyclists allegedly revved their vehicles in front of a nasi uduk vendor in front of the Jami Matraman Mosque on Jalan Matraman Dalam. The group allegedly damaged the vendor’s cart and assaulted local residents. This action triggered mass resistance, leading to stone-throwing and blunt objects being hurled in the Jalan Tambak area. One victim, identified by the initial K (23), was reported dead after receiving medical treatment, while another victim remains in critical condition.
