SINGAPORE (Reuter): Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten flew into Singapore yesterday at the start of a brief holiday in Southeast Asia.
"It's a holiday," he said as he left a fashionable restaurant where he and his family were having lunch. He declined to discuss details of his trip.
Singaporean sources said Patten was due to leave the city- state later yesterday for an eight-day holiday in Indonesia. The visit to Singapore was private and he had not met government officials, they said.
Patten is the 28th and last governor of Hong Kong. The territory, a British colony for more than 150 years, reverts to China at midnight on June 30, 1997.
