Gorontalo (ANTARA) - Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail is optimistic that the Red and White Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) in Leato Selatan Ward, Dumbo Raya Subdistrict, Gorontalo City, will support the economic growth of the region.

“Alhamdulillah, KNMP Leato Selatan has become the first fishermen’s village visited by President Prabowo,” said Gusnar in Gorontalo on Saturday.

The president’s visit was accompanied by Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, as well as Mayor Adhan Dambea and several regional heads in Gorontalo Province.

Gusnar stated that Leato Selatan is the first KNMP in Indonesia to be visited by President Prabowo.

In 2025, there will be 100 KNMPs as pilot projects, 65 of which are already completed, including KNMP Leato Selatan.

“Today, the President had the opportunity to stop by in Gorontalo. This is believed to be a blessing for the people, especially the fishermen and this region,” said Gusnar.

Several development achievements were directly observed by the President at this KNMP, such as the ice factory, cold storage warehouse, and several other facilities.

President Prabowo stated that the marine and fisheries sector will continue to be strengthened and developed by promoting the blue economy concept.

The concept involves the sustainable utilisation of marine resources to drive public welfare.

“This is very important, and the world now greatly needs fish and protein. Therefore, the government I lead will massively develop fisheries and the marine sector. What we call now is the blue economy,” said the President.

He considers this target highly relevant because Indonesia is regarded as a great maritime nation.

Prabowo also plans to visit Gorontalo in 2027 to directly see the success of the fishermen and the fishing vessels they own.
