Governor of North Kalimantan Visits Student Allegedly a Victim of Captivity

Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Governor of North Kalimantan, Zainal A. Paliwang, has taken swift action to provide moral support and assistance by visiting a female student from North Kalimantan who is allegedly a victim of captivity and sexual assault in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

“Yes, last night we visited her to provide moral support and assistance,” said the Governor of North Kalimantan, confirmed on Friday.

The Governor of North Kalimantan explained that he happened to be in Makassar on official business, and upon hearing the news about the incident involving a student from North Kalimantan, he made time to visit her at her dormitory, accompanied by police officers from the Tamalate Police Station, Makassar City Police.

Seeing the situation, Governor Zainal expressed his hope that the media would not focus on reporting about the victim, but rather on encouraging efforts to uncover the case as soon as possible.

“I ask my friends in the media not to sensationalise the victim, but to focus on how we can work together to find the perpetrators,” he said.

According to him, the victim’s privacy must be protected by not spreading information that could have an impact on her mental condition.

“She is already suffering psychologically. This is what we need to address immediately, and we have asked for assistance from psychologists,” he said.

The Governor of North Kalimantan also requested assistance from the South Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda) to follow up on the case until it is resolved.

“I ask the Chief of Police of South Sulawesi to follow up on this case until it is resolved,” he said to the Chief of Police of South Sulawesi.

He also asked for the help of the people of South Sulawesi, together with law enforcement officials, to help catch the perpetrators.

The North Kalimantan Provincial Government, said Zainal, is making every effort to help with the victim’s psychological recovery and to continue providing support.

“We are looking for a way to help the victim, and we have asked for assistance from psychologists to help her overcome the trauma. This is a very deep trauma,” he said.
