Governor Rudy Mas’ud of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) has apologised for the controversial procurement of an official vehicle worth 8.49 billion rupiah. The acquisition of the gubernatorial vehicle has been formally cancelled.

Mas’ud communicated this through an audio message posted on his personal Instagram account @h.rudymasud and the official Instagram account of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government @pemprov_kaltim on Monday, 2 March 2026.

“Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh, we wish to inform you that the Government of East Kalimantan Province has decided to cancel the gubernatorial official vehicle that was previously planned,” said Rudy, as reported by detikKalimantan.

Mas’ud acknowledged that he had heard from residents, the majority of whom opposed the acquisition of the expensive official vehicle. He stated that his decision would not compromise government quality.

“We made this decision after listening to and seriously considering the aspirations and constructive input of the East Kalimantan community. We affirm that this decision, God willing, will not disrupt government performance, and public service duties will continue to operate optimally,” he added.

Harum, as he is commonly nicknamed, also extended an apology to the residents of East Kalimantan and all of Indonesia. He expressed gratitude for the input provided by the community through various platforms.

“Our focus remains on the welfare of the community. In this month of forgiveness, we humbly extend our apologies to all Indonesian society, particularly the people of East Kalimantan,” said Rudy.
