Governor: New Pontianak-Singapore flight opens West Kalimantan tourism opportunities

Pontianak (ANTARA) - The Governor of West Kalimantan, Ria Norsan, has welcomed the commencement of the new direct flight route between Pontianak and Singapore, which has long been a hope for the community as it presents opportunities for investment and tourism development in West Kalimantan.

“I am very happy today because the presence of this route will facilitate public mobility while simultaneously increasing the attractiveness of investment and foreign tourist arrivals to West Kalimantan,” said Ria Norsan while attending the inaugural flight of Scoot airlines at Supadio Airport, Kubu Raya, on Monday.

In addition to the tourism sector, Norsan believes that this international flight also opens opportunities for exporting various flagship commodities from West Kalimantan, particularly fishery products such as fish, prawns, and crabs, which hold high economic value in the Singaporean market.

“We hope that business actors can utilise this opportunity to expand export markets. Moving forward, we are also encouraging the opening of other international routes from Pontianak to China,” he said.

At the same location, the Chief Representative of Indonesia for Scoot, Divesh Singaraju, stated that Indonesia, and West Kalimantan in particular, is a market with great potential due to the strong economic ties and public mobility between Indonesia and Singapore.

“Indonesia is a very potential market for Singapore. We see great growth opportunities, not only in the tourism sector but also in business. We want to demonstrate our commitment to continuously developing the flight network between Indonesia and Singapore,” he said.

He explained that Scoot, which is part of the Singapore Airlines Group, currently connects Singapore to more than 17 destinations and will continue to support the enhancement of Indonesian connectivity through its international flight network.
