Governor: New Pontianak-Singapore flight opens West Kalimantan tourism opportunities

West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan has welcomed the commencement of a new direct flight route between Pontianak and Singapore, a long-held aspiration of the local community, as it presents opportunities for investment and tourism development in the province. “I am very happy today because the presence of this route will facilitate public mobility while increasing the attractiveness of investment and foreign tourist visits to West Kalimantan,” said Ria Norsan during the inaugural Scoot flight at Supadio Airport, Kubu Raya, on Monday. Beyond the tourism sector, Norsan assessed that the international flight also opens export opportunities for West Kalimantan’s leading commodities, particularly fishery products such as fish, shrimp, and crab, which hold high economic value in the Singaporean market. “We hope business actors can seize this opportunity to expand export markets. Going forward, we are also encouraging the opening of other international routes from Pontianang to China,” he said. At the same event, Chief Representative Indonesia for Scoot, Divesh Singaraju, stated that Indonesia, especially West Kalimantan, is a market with significant potential due to the strong economic relations and people mobility between Indonesia and Singapore. “Indonesia is a very potential market for Singapore. We see great growth opportunities, not only in tourism but also in business. We want to demonstrate our commitment to continuing to develop the flight network between Indonesia and Singapore,” he said. He explained that Scoot, which is part of the Singapore Airlines Group, currently connects Singapore with more than 17 destinations and will continue to support improving Indonesia’s connectivity through its international flight network.
