Governor Luthfi Admits Road Damage Complaints, Blames Prolonged Rain as 'Disease'
Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has acknowledged the high number of public complaints regarding the condition of roads in the region. According to Luthfi, one of the main factors causing the damage is the prolonged duration of the rainy season.
“Our roads, whether provincial, district/city, or village roads, receive a lot of complaints from the public,” Luthfi said during a plenary meeting at the Central Java DPRD office on Thursday (2/7/2026).
He explained that the road stability rate in Central Java Province reached 94.4 percent in 2025. “But in 2026, we dropped to an 84 percent stability rate. Why did that happen? Because the rainy season lasted a whole year. The disease of our roads is the rain,” he said.
According to Luthfi, roads tend to be smoother if they are not frequently drenched and waterlogged. “In Indonesia, in our area, roads are completely destroyed by it,” he said.
Luthfi expressed a desire to anticipate the potential for viral posts about damaged roads in Central Java. However, he stressed that public complaints about roads cannot be fixed immediately. “We have to go through budgeting, then a tender process, and then determine which roads are the priority,” he stated.
