East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has urged all employers in East Java to pay the Religious Eid Bonus (Tunjangan Hari Raya) to workers or labourers no later than seven days before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah.

The appeal was made by Governor Khofifah as a demonstration of the East Java Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring workers’ rights are fulfilled ahead of the religious holiday.

“We are now in Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr is approaching soon. I am calling upon employers in East Java to ensure that workers’ Eid bonuses are paid no later than seven days before Eid,” said Khofifah on Friday (27 February).

Governor Khofifah emphasised that the Religious Eid Bonus is a worker’s right that employers are obligated to fulfil in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The provision of the bonus is not merely a normative obligation, but also part of worker protection and enhancement of labour welfare.

“The Eid bonus is a form of employer obligation to fulfil one aspect of the welfare and protection of their workers, which is also expected to boost worker performance and productivity in their work,” Khofifah explained.

According to her, the Eid al-Fitr period is typically characterised by increased household expenditure. Therefore, timely payment of the Eid bonus is crucial to help workers meet their needs during Ramadan and prepare for the religious celebration.

“Eid or Eid al-Fitr is a moment for sharing joy, and household expenses tend to be higher than usual,” she added.
