Surabaya - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has urged livestock farmers in the province to improve the quality of their livestock to meet global meat demands, during a visit to Berkah Wafa Farm in Mojokerto Regency. “A few days ago, I met the Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia, who said his country imports a lot of meat from Brazil and Australia. So I told him that East Java is ready to supply goat, sheep, and beef meat. He mentioned the requirements, and I think we can meet those conditions,” Khofifah stated. In a press statement received in Surabaya on Sunday, Khofifah expressed optimism that the global market opportunities for East Java’s livestock products are substantial, including meeting meat needs in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. “The Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia will visit East Java after the Hajj season to inspect the halal slaughterhouses here,” she added. “Our market is quite large both domestically and internationally. For the farmers, this is good news and a new hope,” she said. During the visit, Khofifah also inspected hundreds of superior livestock owned by farmer Faisal Effendi, prepared for Eid al-Adha needs, ranging from Peranakan Ongole (PO) cattle, Limousin, Simmental, Red Brahman, Belgian Blue to camels. Khofifah even purchased a Belgian Blue cow to be used as a sacrificial animal this year.
