The East Java Provincial Government is striving to improve the quality of healthcare and international-standard medical education. One of the strategic steps taken is the participation of Dr. Soetomo Hospital in the Annual Educational Conference (AEC) 2026, organised by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, expressed her full support for Dr. Soetomo Hospital’s participation in the international forum, which is attended by hospitals from around the world.

“Dr. Soetomo Hospital’s participation in the ACGME conference is an important step in strengthening the quality of medical education in East Java to align with international standards,” she said in a written statement on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Khofifah stated that Dr. Soetomo Hospital, as a hospital owned by the East Java Provincial Government, has been invited to participate in the conference.

This participation is due to the strategic role of Dr. Soetomo Hospital as a teaching hospital and one of the candidates for a Leading Educational Hospital (RSPPU), which continuously strives to improve the quality of medical professional education in accordance with international standards.

Khofifah hopes that the delegates from Dr. Soetomo Hospital will be able to broaden their holistic understanding of global standards in professional education, while also evaluating and strengthening the existing education system.

Khofifah urged that the knowledge and experience gained should be implemented to improve the competence of healthcare professionals and the quality of services to the community.

Khofifah affirmed that the East Java Provincial Government is committed to continuing to support the transformation of healthcare services through strengthening human resource capacity, educational innovation, and global collaboration.

“Improving the quality of healthcare services must start with excellent education. Therefore, we encourage Dr. Soetomo Hospital to continue to innovate, adapt to global developments, and become an internationally competitive centre for medical education,” she emphasised.

Meanwhile, the Director of Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Prof. Cita Rosita, said that participation in the ACGME AEC 2026 is a strategic moment for the hospital to strengthen its international-standard medical professional education system.

“Participation in the ACGME conference provides us with the opportunity to learn directly from best practices at the global level. This is important to ensure that the resident and fellow education system at Dr. Soetomo Hospital continues to develop, adapt to changes, and is focused on patient safety and service quality,” she said.

She added that the lessons learned from this international forum will be used as material for evaluation and strengthening in the development of curricula, learning systems, and the governance of professional education at Dr. Soetomo Hospital.

“We are committed to implementing international medical education standards gradually and sustainably. We hope that Dr. Soetomo Hospital will not only be a national referral hospital, but also an excellent and competitive centre for medical education at the global level,” she added.

With its participation in the ACGME AEC 2026 conference, Dr. Soetomo Hospital is expected to be even better prepared to implement international-standard medical professional education, while also strengthening its position as a referral hospital and leading education centre in Indonesia.

The ACGME annual education conference is a leading learning event in the field of graduate medical education (GME). This year, the conference was held from 9-21 February 2026 in San Diego, United States.

The event was attended by more than 5,000 professionals from around the world, including educators, leaders, and innovators in the field of academic medicine.

With the theme ‘Meaning in Medicine’, the conference emphasised the importance of aligning personal and professional values, improving the well-being of healthcare professionals, and strengthening collaboration within the healthcare system.

The theme also encourages participants to improve the quality of resident and fellow education, while also having an impact on improving the quality of services to patients.
