Governor KDM Rebuts Claims of Intolerance in West Java: West Javanese People Have Always Been Tolerant
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has responded to statements made by Abu Janda, which characterised West Java as a ‘barbaric’ province due to perceived intolerance. He emphasised that West Java is a highly tolerant and open province where the community feels comfortable living.
“I always believe that we should respond to everything that develops in a mature manner. Today, I reaffirm that the people of West Java have been tolerant for a long time. West Javanese people have always been tolerant,” he stated to journalists at Bale Pakuan on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
He further explained that if intolerance-related conflicts occur, they are primarily caused by miscommunication. Dedi also noted that those involved in such acts of intolerance are typically not native residents of West Java.
