Government efficiency policies will not impact the termination of employment contracts for Contract Government Employees (PPPK) within the South Sumatra Provincial Government. This was stated by South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru during a joint roll call and halal bihalal event for the South Sumatra Provincial Government for the year 2026/1447 Hijriah, held after the long Eid al-Fitr holiday in Palembang on Monday, 30 March 2026.

Efficiency, he said, must be understood as a real contribution from civil servants (ASN) to the state, but it should not create new problems, including rising unemployment figures. “PPPK in South Sumatra will remain ongoing as part of the ASN. We will not implement efficiency by laying off employees because that would create new problems,” he stated.

In several other regions, he noted, there are policies to lay off PPPK under the pretext of efficiency. However, this will certainly not happen in South Sumatra. According to him, efficiency can still be carried out in other sectors without sacrificing the workforce.

“As long as we can implement efficiency in other areas, there is no need to take steps to terminate employment contracts. That would add to unemployment and have broad impacts,” he said.

In addition to guaranteeing the continuity of PPPK, Herman Deru also emphasised that the South Sumatra Provincial Government is not cutting Additional Employee Income (TPP) or performance allowances (tukin). Therefore, he urged all ASN, both at the provincial and regency/city levels, to continue working maximally and improving performance. “South Sumatra is one of the regions that does not cut TPP and tukin. So, there is no reason for ASN not to work optimally,” he said.

In the still festive halal bihalal atmosphere, the Governor also invited all ASN to use the momentum as a starting point to strengthen their commitment to serving the community. He reminded them of the importance of maintaining professionalism, loyalty, and responsiveness in delivering public services. According to him, efficiency does not mean reducing the quality of services, but rather ensuring the continuity of regional development, especially in priority sectors like infrastructure.

“Efficiency is part of our contribution to the state, but its implementation must be careful so as not to disrupt public services or the community economy,” he said.

He further emphasised that ASN are role models for society and must be able to set an example in consistently supporting central and regional government programmes. “With the spirit of halal bihalal, let us strengthen our commitment, improve performance, and together maintain the continuity of development in South Sumatra,” he said. After the roll call, the Governor, accompanied by the Regional Secretary and heads of regional apparatus work units, conducted halal bihalal with all employees in the South Sumatra Provincial Government environment.
