Governor gets medal of merit

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has received a medal of merit from the Indonesian Legion of Veterans.

The medal was presented by Thahir, chairman of the Veteran Legion, to the governor in a ceremony at City Hall on Monday.

Thahir said the medal was given to Surjadi for his participation in Indonesia's struggle against the Dutch colonialism in the 1940s.

"Surjadi proves to be successful in his leadership, as can be seen from the smooth progress in the implementation of various development programs under the new order in the city," Thahir said.

According to Veteran Legion Regulation No. 7/1987, the medal can be awarded to any ex-freedom fighter that shows good performance in their current positions, including the military and diplomatic fields.

Thahir also thanked governor for his special attention to a number of veterans, especially those working in the city administration. (25)
