Governor emphasises Bali's development must be in harmony with nature

Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, has emphasised that all directions of development in Bali must proceed harmoniously and sustainably between humans and nature.

“We must not live in isolation only to destroy others; we must live to sustain, ‘urip yang menguripi’ (living to give life). Living in harmony with nature is the teaching of our ancestors and serves as the technocratic concept for development to ensure Bali is well-preserved for future generations,” stated Governor Koster in a statement from the Bali Provincial Government in Denpasar on Friday.

While attending the peak of the 2026 Environmental and Social Innovation Award (ENSIA) ceremony, Koster noted that the spirit of ENSIA aligns with Bali’s development direction, which places environmental preservation as one of its primary foundations.

This approach is consistent with Bali’s development vision, which is based on local wisdom and focuses on creating a clean environment and a healthy life for all living beings.

Governor Koster revealed that the Bali Provincial Government’s commitment is manifested through policies regarding the use of clean energy from upstream to downstream, as regulated by regional and gubernatorial regulations.

One of the priority programmes being developed is Solar Power Plants (PLTS), which has been encouraged since 2019 as part of the transformation towards clean energy usage.

The development of solar power in Bali, he continued, receives support from the central government, with a target to obtain a power supply of 1,000 megawatts (MW) as part of a national programme with a capacity of 100 gigawatt peak (GWp).
