Governor Dedi Mulyadi Urges Citizens to Fight Street Crime, Offers Cash Rewards

The rising threat of street crime, particularly muggings, in Greater Bandung has prompted West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to call for public participation in prevention efforts. One measure he has introduced is a contest offering rewards for anyone who successfully captures a perpetrator alive. The former Purwakarta Regent is providing cash prizes ranging from IDR 5 million to IDR 50 million. “The condition is that the perpetrator must be captured alive and handed over to the police for legal processing,” he stressed on Thursday. The crimes targeted are not limited to muggings but also include theft, pickpocketing, bag snatching, and robbery. In an effort to strengthen security, Dedi stated that the West Java Provincial Government is continuously coordinating with the West Java Regional Police. Coordination is also being carried out with the Metro Jaya Regional Police, considering the potential for cross-regional movement of criminals. “Inter-agency synergy is an important step to increase vigilance against various criminal acts that disturb the community,” he asserted. He also requested that patrol vehicles remain on standby every night and keep their rotating lights on. “The presence of officers in the field is crucial to prevent criminal acts,” Dedi continued. Furthermore, he has asked the Civil Service Police Unit and the Fire Service to be on standby at strategic points to help anticipate various possibilities that could disrupt security. The Governor also urged residents to revive neighbourhood security systems in every area. “Protecting oneself and looking out for each other is the basic principle of a gotong royong life,” he said. He called on all West Java residents to remain vigilant and dare to fight against crime while prioritising law enforcement through the police.
