Governor candidates

Governor candidates

From Media Indonesia

In its edition of April 30, 2002, Media Indonesia published a
statement made by two members of the city council, Tarmidi
Suharjo of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and Ahmad
Heryawan of the Justice Party, saying that both will reject
Jakarta governor candidates from active-service or retired
military/police members and that there is no more room for such
nominees.

Governor candidacy is not related to whether someone is a
civilian or a member of the military/police or an indigenous
person, but whether he is one of the best children of the nation
with the proper capabilities and skills and is also accommodating
as well as aspiring and tough.

Moreover, Jakarta is the capital city of the Republic of
Indonesia with highly complex issues and diverse people. The city
needs a governor that is competent, adroit and able to control
the situation, particularly in relation to security affairs, and
is charismatic.

As a city resident, I call on Tarmidi and Ahmad Heryawan to be
more careful in making public statements or airing their opinions
so that every statement, especially those made by the city
councillors, can enlighten and empower the public way of
thinking.

Also we call on Sutiyoso to be willing and prepared to be
reelected as the city governor so that he can realize the
strategic plans and the controlling operations for the capital
city.
