Governor Bobby Nasution Partners with Cicendo Eye Hospital to Enhance Public Eye Care Services

The Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding an eye care supervisory network with the Cicendo Eye Hospital in Bandung. This collaboration is part of the North Sumatra Provincial Government’s efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services, specifically focusing on ophthalmic care.

The MoU signing took place at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office in Medan on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Governor Bobby Nasution stated that the partnership aligns with the provincial government’s priority programmes in the health sector. Having already worked to expand public access to healthcare, the administration is now focusing on enhancing the quality of the services provided.

“The North Sumatra Provincial Government’s first priority in health was ensuring the community could access healthcare services, which we achieved early in our term. Today, after ensuring access, we are working to improve the quality of those services,” said Bobby. He added that this improvement involves upgrading health facilities and strengthening hospital service capacities, including regional hospitals (RSUD) and community health centres (Puskesmas).

As a key component of this initiative, the provincial-owned eye hospital will benefit from the expertise of Cicendo Eye Hospital, which serves as Indonesia’s National Eye Centre. The President Director of Cicendo Eye Hospital, Antonia Kartika, explained that the eye care network programme focuses on increasing the capacity of human resources, particularly eye doctors and nurses in North Sumatra. The programme includes theoretical training via digital platforms, workshops for ophthalmologists from approximately 49 hospitals across North Sumatra, and practical assistance for cataract surgeries. The programme is also aimed at reducing the high rates of blindness currently recorded in Indonesia.
