Governor Assures No Dismissal of Contract Government Employees in East Kalimantan
Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Governor of East Kalimantan, Rudy Mas’ud, has affirmed that the provincial government will not dismiss Pegawai Pemerintah dengan Perjanjian Kerja (PPPK), or contract government employees, despite currently facing significant fiscal pressures.
“God willing, to all PPPKs in East Kalimantan, do not doubt it, we will protect you. There will be no dismissal of PPPKs,” said Rudy Mas’ud while giving a statement in Samarinda on Sunday.
The information regarding workforce reductions emerged after several regions in Indonesia threatened to lay off PPPKs. This was triggered by financial difficulties faced by local governments and the existence of strict regulations limiting employee expenditure to a maximum of 30 percent of the Regional Budget (APBD).
According to him, PPPKs together with Pegawai Negeri Sipil (PNS), or civil servants, are important pillars that make significant contributions to the government and public services.
The commitment to maintain PPPK employees is not the first time it has been conveyed by the Governor. At the East Kalimantan Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang) held at the Lamin Etam Pavilion a few weeks ago, Rudy directly invited all regents and mayors in East Kalimantan to be united.
He asked regional heads not to use financial reasons as a basis for dismissing PPPKs.
“Please pray and do not doubt that we will maintain PPPKs,” added Rudy.
The Governor also reminded all PPPKs to uphold integrity, comply with the code of ethics for State Civil Apparatus (ASN), and focus on providing their best performance.
He asked employees to avoid criminal acts that could damage the image of the institution. “Continue to work well and adhere to the ASN code of ethics. Do not get involved in gambling, drugs, corruption, or other disgraceful acts,” he said.
For information, the termination of employment for PPPKs is strictly regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 49 of 2018 concerning the Management of PPPKs.
Based on this regulation, work contracts can only be terminated due to five factors: the end of the contract period, poor performance evaluation results, committing serious disciplinary violations, being involved in legal problems (criminal acts), and at the request of the employee concerned.
Currently, PPPKs play a vital role in public services in East Kalimantan. Based on the latest data, the distribution of the number of PPPKs in the East Kalimantan region is 11,588 people in the East Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov) and a total of 46,655 people throughout East Kalimantan (Provincial Government, regencies and cities).
