Governor Andra Soni Opens SEMMI IX Congress, Hopes It Becomes a Forum for Formulating Muslim Students' Direction of Struggle
The IX Congress of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (PB SEMMI) has officially commenced at the National Police Traffic Training Centre Ballroom in Banten. Carrying the theme ‘One SEMMI Realises Astacita’, the supreme forum gathered hundreds of student delegates from across the country, alongside regional and national figures. The opening ceremony was enlivened by a Banten Jawara dance performance from the Satya Swastika Art Studio, welcoming the participants and invited guests.
Organising Committee Chairman Fikri Firdauzi opened the session by expressing gratitude for the attendance of administrators from all over Indonesia. He stressed the importance of maintaining cohesion among cadres. ‘Alhamdulillah, this IX SEMMI Congress is attended by delegates from 28 Regional Boards and 188 Branch Boards throughout Indonesia. We affirm that solidarity and unity are non-negotiable. Only with tight ranks and a single frequency can we move forward together to realise Astacita for the progress and glory of the nation,’ Fikri stated on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
In his movement direction speech, PB SEMMI General Chairman Bintang Wahyu Saputra highlighted the intellectual legacy of Syarikat Islam founder H.O.S. Tjokroaminoto. He urged all cadres to be responsive to ever-changing global dynamics. ‘SEMMI is the intellectual vessel of Syarikat Islam. We must be aligned in facing the challenges of the times and global uncertainty. SEMMI will continue to guard and support the government’s strategic programmes for social equity, while maintaining a logical critical attitude for the people’s interests,’ Bintang said.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Syarikat Islam Executive Board, Abdul Wahab, delivered a moral and academic message. He emphasised SEMMI’s vital position as the offspring of Syarikat Islam in upholding the noble values of Pancasila. ‘Our SEMMI brothers and sisters must become academic individuals ready to be human capital and future leaders of the nation. Regarding Astacita, the point of protecting the Pancasila ideology is non-negotiable, because history records that four Syarikat Islam figures were signatories to the Jakarta Charter,’ Abdul Wahab stated.
