Governor: 77,500 PBD Workers Protected by BPJS Employment
Sorong (ANTARA) - The Governor of Southwest Papua (PBD), Elisa Kambu, stated that 77,500 workers in the province are receiving protection through the BPJS Employment programme, marked by the Paritrana Award 2025. “We have realised this commitment through Provincial Regulation Number 19 of 2023 on the Implementation of the Employment Social Security Programme in Southwest Papua Province, which has so far successfully protected 77,500 workers from risks during work,” said Elisa Kambu in a statement received in Sorong on Monday. Elisa said that this achievement represents the local government’s commitment, together with stakeholders, to expand employment social security protection for both formal and informal workers in Southwest Papua. According to her, the existence of the regional regulation through Governor’s Regulation Number 19 of 2023 serves as an important foundation in increasing participation in the employment social security programme in the new autonomous region. “The award received serves as motivation for the Southwest Papua Provincial Government to continue expanding workforce protection coverage throughout the region,” she stated. Elisa invited all employers, entrepreneurs, and self-employed workers to actively become BPJS Employment participants and ensure that contributions are paid regularly. “This employment social security protection programme is a manifestation of the state’s presence in every step we take in our activities and work,” she said. According to her, the Paritrana Award is an accolade given to local governments and business actors deemed successful in supporting the implementation of the employment social security programme.
