Government Urges Public to Display National Flag from 1-31 August for 81st Independence Day

The Indonesian government has called on the public to display the Red and White national flag from 1 to 31 August 2026 in celebration of the country’s 81st Independence Day. The appeal was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs through Circular Number: 400.10.1.1/5487/SJ, which also outlines the theme and official logo for the commemoration.

According to the circular, citizens are urged to fly the flag simultaneously in their respective areas throughout the entire month of August. The government also encourages the installation of decorations, banners, posters, and billboards featuring the official logo, with design guidelines available on the Presidential Palace’s official website.

The flag display must adhere to procedures stipulated in Law Number 24 of 2009 concerning the National Flag, Language, Emblem, and Anthem. These regulations specify that the flag must be hoisted on a suitably sized pole, raised and lowered respectfully without touching the ground, and that those present should pay homage, optionally accompanied by the national anthem ‘Indonesia Raya’.

The official logo for the 81st anniversary embodies three philosophical meanings: intergenerational collection and mutual cooperation, synergy and connection in building the nation, and growth with a shared purpose. The government has provided official download links for the logo to facilitate public participation in the celebrations.
