Government Urges Orderly Expression Ahead of 81st Independence Day
Head of the National Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Muhammad Qodari, has emphasised that national security stability is currently in a steady and controlled state ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The government, together with security forces, has implemented various anticipatory measures to ensure all series of events proceed safely and conducively.
In a statement in Jakarta on Monday (10/8), Qodari urged the public to remain calm and not be easily provoked by various information circulating, especially on social media. He stressed the importance of verifying every piece of information received before disseminating it further.
“The public is expected to remain calm and wise in receiving various information circulating, especially on social media. It is important for all of us to always check the source, time, and context of information before concluding or spreading it,” Qodari said.
Qodari explained that the increased security in a number of public spaces is a standard risk mitigation and management procedure. The measure aims to provide maximum protection to the public and is not an indication of a significant increase in security threats.
Beyond physical security, the government is also highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy digital ecosystem. Qodari stated that the government is committed to continuously conveying information openly, quickly, and based on facts through official channels to counter disinformation.
Regarding the right to free speech, Qodari affirmed that the government respects the rights of every citizen as guaranteed by the constitution. However, he requested that the expression of opinions be carried out peacefully, in an orderly manner, and in compliance with the prevailing laws and regulations.
Concluding his statement, the Head of Bakom invited all elements of the nation to welcome the 81st Independence Day with a spirit of unity and mutual cooperation. This moment of independence is expected to be an occasion to strengthen the love for the homeland in order to build a more advanced, sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
