Government Urges Investors to Trust Policy Direction on PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI)
The Indonesian government asks investors and market participants to stay calm and trust the government’s policy direction, particularly regarding the establishment of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI) as a state-owned enterprise dedicated to exports. The government previously formed PT DSI with a specific mandate to manage and oversee exports of strategic natural resource commodities.
In response to concerns from business actors regarding PT DSI, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that all export activities remain normal and are carried out by companies already in the coal, crude palm oil (CPO), and iron alloy or ferro alloy sectors.
“First of all, there is no need to worry, because all exports are still conducted by companies in the existing sectors,” Airlangga told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May 2026, as cited in a written statement.
Going forward, every export activity will be recorded by PT DSI and reported to the Danantara Investment Management Authority. “In exports there will be direct reporting to Danantara, so within three months we will fine-tune the system,” Airlangga said.
Airlangga said this after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto and several ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet at the Istana Merdeka, Jakarta. In the meeting, President Prabowo received a briefing on the readiness of the export proceeds policy (DHE) which will take effect at the start of June.
Airlangga emphasised that the government is finalising all supporting regulatory instruments so that the policy’s implementation runs on schedule by 1 June 2026. “We reported earlier that a range of regulatory instruments, including from Permendag (Minister of Trade Regulation), from Bank Indonesia, and from the Finance Ministry, will be prepared and completed before 1 June,” he said.
Moreover, Airlangga pledged that the government would provide more detailed explanations to business players before the policy takes effect, to ensure comprehensive understanding of the new policy.
Previously, the government formed PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia with an operating target of 1 June. The government tasked the company to specifically manage and supervise exports of strategic natural resource commodities. For the first three months, export transactions would still be conducted directly between the companies and buyers, but all export records would be managed by DSI.
The establishment of DSI was driven by persistent under-invoicing and transfer pricing practices in several Indonesian export commodities over the years. Those practices were seen as negatively affecting state revenue, including taxation, royalties, foreign exchange, and the validity of national trade data.
As a result, Danantara formed DSI as a platform to oversee the transparency of export transactions, from volume and price to the delivery mechanism. Going forward, the government will evaluate every three months before the company becomes the main executor of managing exports of strategic commodities on a gradual basis.
